INTRODUCTION
Google Ads automation ka central promise simple hai: system ko outcome batayiye, aur machine inventory, bids aur audience signals ke beech spend distribute karegi. Practical problem yeh tha ki advertisers ko channel-level steering bahut limited milti thi. Search partners ya Display Network par trust kam ho to choice aksar binary lagti thi—on ya off.
Google ne 14 October 2026 ko channel prioritization aur channel-level budget allocation announce kiya. Rollout 15 October se progressively start ho raha hai across Search, Shopping, Performance Max aur Demand Gen. Is update ka strategic value automation ko reject karna nahi, uske around business guardrails lagana hai.
Indian advertisers ke liye yeh especially relevant hai. CPC aur lead volume ko dekh kar campaign healthy lag sakta hai, par CRM-qualified rate, regional sales coverage ya call quality alag story bata sakte hain. New controls low-trust inventory ko testable banate hain—lekin allocation best-effort hai, guarantee nahi. Isliye feature ko hard financial cap samajhna mistake hogi.
WHAT GOOGLE CONFIRMED
Announcement and rollout
Google’s product announcement was published on 14 October 2026. Help documentation says controls become progressively available from 15 October 2026 over the coming months. Feature visibility therefore account, campaign type and rollout timing ke hisaab se vary kar sakti hai.
Channel prioritization two tiers use karta hai:
High priority: Google AI pehle in channels par spend prioritize karta hai, bidding target aur eligible traffic ke context mein.
Low priority: High-priority opportunity ke baad remaining budget lower-priority channels par flow kar sakta hai.
By default, eligible channels High priority rahenge. Controls account, shared-budget ya campaign level par set kiye ja sakte hain. Campaign-level setting account default ko override kar sakti hai.
Campaign-wise channel groups
Search campaigns mein Google Search, Google search partners aur Google Display Network ko separately prioritize kiya ja sakta hai.
Shopping campaigns mein Google Search aur Google search partners available hain.
Performance Max mein Google surfaces—Search, YouTube, Maps, Gmail aur Discover—“Google channels” ke ek group mein hain. Search partners aur Google Display Network alag priority choices hain.
Demand Gen mein Google channels aur Google Display Network priorities available hain. Important exception: Demand Gen channel prioritization support karta hai, lekin budget allocation support nahi karta.
Budget allocation ka actual meaning
Low-priority channel ke liye advertiser average daily budget ka desired percentage specify kar sakta hai. Example: ₹10,000 average daily budget par 5% allocation ka aim roughly ₹500 per day hoga. Yeh percentage actual daily spend ka share nahi, average daily budget par calculate hota hai.
Google clearly calls this a best-effort limit. Daily spend occasionally percentage se exceed ho sakta hai. Under-spend ya over-spend next day carry forward nahi hota. Isliye finance team ko is number ko invoice-level ceiling ke roop mein use nahi karna chahiye.
A 0% allocation means Google will not spend on that Low-priority channel. Shared budget mein allocation shared pool par apply hota hai, individual campaign par separately nahi.
BIDDING STRATEGY CHANGES THE EFFECT
Target CPA, Target ROAS or Target CPC campaign agar budget-limited nahi hai, to priority levels generally channel distribution change nahi karte; system targets achieve karne ki koshish karta hai across channels. Low-priority budget allocation phir bhi apply hota hai.
Budget-limited Target CPA/ROAS/CPC campaigns mein High-priority channels first spend karte hain within the target. Agar extra high-priority spend target violate kare, budget Low-priority channel ko move ho sakta hai where target achievable ho.
Maximize Conversions, Maximize Conversion Value, Maximize Clicks and Manual CPC mein High-priority inventory first eligible budget absorb karta hai; remaining amount Low-priority channels mein ja sakta hai.
Yeh nuance important hai. “High priority” ko guaranteed exclusive placement ya quality certification mat samjhiye. It is a spend-steering signal within auction eligibility, bidding targets and available traffic.
FEBRUARY 2027 DISPLAY EXPANSION CHANGE
Google says Search campaigns with Display Expansion enabled will migrate to the new model from February 2027. Existing spend allocation setup will go away, aur channel mix shift ho sakta hai.
Advertisers wanting to approximate the current configuration can set Google Display Network to Low priority with a 50% daily budget allocation. That 50% is still best-effort. Google also says GDN will no longer serve on Search campaigns using Target Impression Share once this change takes effect.
Agar account mein controls February 2027 se pehle appear ho jaate hain and you activate them, new settings immediately replace current Display Expansion budget behavior. Migration se pehle account inventory aur settings document karna sensible hai.
INDIA-SPECIFIC IMPLICATIONS
1. Cheap lead aur good lead alag metrics hain
Search partners ya Display inventory lower CPL de sakti hai, lekin spam, unreachable contacts ya poor sales fit higher ho sakta hai. Channel decision form fills par nahi, CRM outcomes par hona chahiye.
Track at minimum:
- channel and campaign;
- qualified-lead rate;
- contactability;
- appointment or demo completion;
- sales-accepted lead;
- realised revenue;
- refund or cancellation signal.
A channel with ₹600 CPL and 10% qualification can be costlier than ₹1,000 CPL with 35% qualification.
2. Regional campaigns need separate evidence
India mein metro, Tier-2 and Tier-3 demand, language and conversion paths differ. National average local performance ko hide kar sakta hai. Priority experiments ko geography, language, device and business-hour segment ke saath read kijiye.
3. Agencies need explicit authority
Account-level default multiple campaigns affect kar sakta hai. Agency ko client approval ke bina broad switch nahi karna chahiye. Change log mein date, owner, previous state, new priority, allocation, hypothesis and rollback rule capture karein.
4. “Low priority” is not a brand-safety control
Priority spend order manage karta hai. Yeh placement exclusion, content suitability, invalid-traffic monitoring ya search-term review replace nahi karta. Brand suitability aur lead-fraud checks separately continue karne honge.
Channel allocation aur creative-source controls ko ek account workflow mein manage karne ke liye Google Ads campaign management services ke scope mein documented tests aur budget reviews include karein.
A CONTROLLED 30-DAY TEST PLAN
Days 1–5: establish baseline
Last 30–60 days ka channel reporting export kijiye. Spend, conversions, CPA/ROAS, conversion lag aur CRM-qualified outcomes align karein. Attribution windows aur offline conversion imports verify karein.
Days 6–10: choose one hypothesis
Example: “Search partners incremental qualified leads provide kar sakte hain, provided allocation 10% ke around constrained rahe.” Ek test mein multiple channels aur bid strategies simultaneously mat change karein.
Days 11–20: apply narrow controls
One campaign ya controlled experiment choose kijiye. Low-priority channel ko modest allocation dein. Before/after screenshots save karein. Account-level default tabhi use karein jab campaign set sufficiently homogeneous ho.
Days 21–27: judge quality, not only delivery
Daily spend overshoot note karein because cap guaranteed nahi. Weekly CRM cohort compare karein. Impression, click and conversion volume ke saath lead acceptance, revenue and sales-cycle movement dekhein.
Days 28–30: decide
Scale: quality and economics both improve.
Hold: volume promising hai but sample small.
Reduce: efficiency weak or overshoot uncomfortable.
Stop: fraud, brand risk or sales-quality deterioration clear hai.
Always record why the decision was taken. Without a decision log, next month’s analyst same experiment repeat kar sakta hai.
COMMON MISTAKES TO AVOID
First, 5% allocation ko hard ₹ cap samajhna. Google explicitly says best-effort.
Second, Demand Gen mein budget allocation expect karna. Current documentation prioritization supports karti hai, allocation nahi.
Third, manager account se universal setup assume karna. Google says prioritization manager account se set nahi ki ja sakti; client account or campaign level use karein.
Fourth, API automation plan immediately deploy karna. Google Ads API and Editor support “coming soon” hai, so interface parity assume na karein.
Fifth, priority change aur bidding change ek saath karna. Multiple variables causal reading impossible bana dete hain.
CONFIRMED FACTS VS ANALYSIS
Confirmed:
- Google published the launch on 14 October 2026.
- Progressive availability begins 15 October across eligible Search, Shopping, Performance Max and Demand Gen campaigns.
- Priorities are High and Low.
- Low-priority allocation is based on average daily budget and works on a best-effort basis.
- Demand Gen lacks allocation support.
- API and Editor support are not yet generally available.
- Display Expansion migration is scheduled for February 2027.
Analysis:
- Indian advertisers may reduce low-quality inventory exposure while preserving controlled discovery.
- CRM-qualified metrics should drive channel priorities.
- Small, documented experiments are safer than account-wide changes.
- The controls improve steering, but do not remove attribution, fraud or brand-safety risk.
CONCLUSION
Google Ads ka direction clear hai: automation continue hogi, par advertisers ko sharper steering tools milenge. Channel prioritization aur budget allocation useful hain because they replace some all-or-nothing choices with measured testing.
Best result tab milega jab setup CRM evidence, narrow hypotheses and clear rollback rules ke saath ho. Priority label business judgement ko encode kar sakta hai; business judgement ko replace nahi.

UPDATE — 23 OCTOBER 2026: SOURCED VIDEOS IN PERFORMANCE MAX
What Google confirmed
Google Ads Help now documents “Sourced videos” for Performance Max. Google AI can crawl approved sources—including social media platforms, the campaign landing page and a linked YouTube channel—to identify videos for an asset group. Up to ten crawled videos can be added automatically alongside advertiser-uploaded or Google-generated video assets.
The setting is campaign-level. Google says sourced videos are enabled by default for new campaigns, and some existing campaigns may have been activated automatically during the platform update. Advertisers must approve source URLs and can edit them later through Asset group → Asset optimization → Sourced videos → Manage sources.
Rollout is sequential, so every account may not show the feature yet. The documented eligibility threshold is a Performance Max daily budget greater than USD 5. Selected videos must be available through YouTube; Google says sourced videos are uploaded to a dedicated Google-owned YouTube channel branded with the advertiser’s logo and business name.
The system can refresh sourced videos on a recurring basis. If a video is removed from the original hosting platform, Google says it will also be removed from Google Ads. Asset performance remains visible in the campaign’s asset list.
Why this changes channel governance
Performance Max controls cover both where your budget can be spent and which creative assets can be used. Sourced videos make it important to review which video inventory Google is allowed to turn into an ad.
An old reel, outdated testimonial, event clip or landing-page video may be technically relevant while being commercially unsafe. Pricing, offer dates, music rights, participant consent, legal disclaimers and logo treatment can all age faster than the video file itself.
For Indian agencies, approved-source governance should therefore sit beside channel prioritisation. A campaign can have sensible spend controls and still deliver risky creative if its source portfolio is too broad.
Practical controls for Indian advertisers
First, review existing Performance Max campaigns for an automatically enabled setting. Do not assume unchanged campaign names mean unchanged asset behaviour.
Second, approve narrow source URLs. Prefer a curated campaign page, an approved social profile or a linked YouTube playlist over a large archive containing mixed brands, languages and expired offers.
Third, run a rights and accuracy check before approval. Confirm speaker or customer consent, music licence, product availability, price, GST wording, finance or health disclaimers and geographic relevance.
Fourth, inspect the dedicated Google-managed YouTube channel and the asset list after activation. Save screenshots of approved sources and selected assets in the campaign change log.
Fifth, review sourced-video performance weekly, but do not keep an asset merely because it converts. Brand safety, claim accuracy and consent remain non-negotiable gates.
Confirmed facts vs analysis
Google documents approved-source crawling, up to ten videos, default-on behaviour for new campaigns, possible activation in existing campaigns, sequential rollout and a daily-budget eligibility threshold above USD 5.
Indian advertisers should treat sourced-video permission as an ongoing creative-supply-chain control. A curated library, weekly review and explicit client approval reduce the risk of outdated or unlicensed material entering paid delivery.
